Registration Open for Microgrid Deployment Workshop, Barcelona

HOMER Energy is pleased to present its next Microgrid Deployment Workshop, September 22-23, 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. The two-day program takes a careful look at key microgrid case studies, system planning and analysis, and deployment issues. The focus is on determining the correct mix of technology options for maximizing the microgrid business model and integration of renewable energy sources. Africa's Largest Self-Sufficient Solar Microgrid Project Created

The island-wide microgrid on Annobon Province, an island off Equatorial Guinea in west central Africa, will be designed to provide enough electricity to handle 100 percent of the island's current energy demand and be the largest self-sufficient solar project on the continent of Africa. The project is a part of Equatorial Guinea's National Economic Development Plan Horizon 2020, which aims to make Equatorial Guinea an "emerging economy" and accelerate its development and democratization by 2020. more

PEER Certification Initiative Launched

Developed by the Perfect Power Institute, a non-profit that aims to apply LEED-style grading to energy microgrids, the new Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal (PEER) program is designed to implement best practices in system design and set the standard for consumer, municipal, and industrial electrical system performance. more

A 15% displacement of diesel generator sets in a remote microgrid would result in a payback period of 2-4 years across all energy storage technologies, according to a new report from Navigant Research. Microgrid Alliance Forms, Seeks to Offer Collective Industry Voice

The Microgrid Alliance (MGA) recently formed with the aim of bringing together parties that want to accelerate the growth and development of microgrids. Founding members include General MicroGrids, Landis+Gyr, HOMER Energy, Alstom, ENBALA Power Networks, EarthSpark International, ESTA International, and Green Energy Corp. Solar Microgrid Architecture Evolution: An Overview

This presentation by David Cohen, Founder and Chairman of Evolution7 Labs, provides an overview of microgrid architectures, including compact networks and hybrid energy systems. The University of California, San Diego has developed a microgrid platform for showcasing new distributed energy technologies. According to a recent article in greentechmedia, the facility is in a position to shave two years off time-to-market because it is on state property and is not a utility. HOMER Energy is looking to host future Microgrid Deployment Workshops during the months of January or February, April or May, July, and September or October of 2015. Our target locations are Australia, India, Malaysia, the Phillippines, Central or South America, northeastern United States, western Africa, southern Africa, or other locations where there is growing interest in microgrids and a concentration of users interested in learning and sharing about HOMER.
