Building a Synthetic Load Using Measured Data

You can import load data for specific devices as a comma-separated-value (CSV) file containing 24 hours of data, either in hourly or minute-resolution. On the Electrical, Thermal, or Hydrogen Load Set Up page, click Advanced Load Set Up Options. After "Build a synthetic load using measured data," click Ok.

The first row and first two columns are ignored. You can use the first row for row titles. In the first two columns, starting with the second row (highlighted in yellow), enter descriptive names for each device. In columns 3 through 1442 (or 3 through 26 for hourly data), enter the load profile for each device in watts. Refer to the chart below for appropriate formatting.

Note: HOMER accepts a mix of 1440-row and 24-row data columns in a single document. HOMER infers the time step based on the number of rows of data for each row individually.

Choose the Open Equipment Database button in the upper right corner of the Load Designer page. Choose "Open...", then choose your CSV file. The load designer imports each row in the file as a separate device. You can drag and drop rows from the Equipment Database window into the Load Designer. Once you are done, close the Equipment Database pop-up window. You can edit the quantities of each item, if desired. You can also set the "Jitter," which offsets the load profiles randomly so load peaks do not always line up in the duplicate devices (if set to a quantity greater than one).
